Frequently asked questions

How does it pick?

It uses your browser cryptographic random source for a fair, unbiased selection, so every item has an equal chance.

Can it pick more than one?

Yes. Set how many to pick. With No repeats on, each winner is unique; turn it off to allow the same item to be picked more than once.

Is it fair enough for a giveaway?

Yes. The selection is cryptographically random and unbiased, which is suitable for raffles, prize draws, and choosing participants.

How many items can I add?

As many as you like — one per line. Blank lines are ignored automatically.

Does it keep my list?

No. The list stays in your browser for the session and is never uploaded or saved on a server.

About the Random Picker

This tool picks one or more items at random from a list you provide — names, options, entries, anything. Paste your list, choose how many to draw, and it selects fairly and instantly.

Fair, unbiased selection

The picker draws using crypto.getRandomValues, your browser cryptographically secure random source, rather than a basic predictable random function. In practice this means every item has a genuinely equal chance of being chosen and the result cannot be anticipated, which is what makes it appropriate for situations where fairness matters — a giveaway, a raffle, choosing who goes first, or selecting participants for something. When you pick several with the No repeats option on, it draws without replacement so the same entry is never chosen twice.

What you can use it for

The everyday uses are endless. Run a social media giveaway by pasting the entrants and drawing a winner. Decide a dinner spot, a book for the club, or who is on cleanup duty. Assign people to teams, pull a random sample from a list, or simply break a tie. Because you control the list and can pick one or many, it adapts to most "choose at random" needs without any setup.

How to use it and privacy

Put each entry on its own line — blank lines are ignored, and the item count updates as you type. Set how many winners you need and whether repeats are allowed, then press Pick. The result is shown clearly, and you can draw again as many times as you like. Everything happens in your browser: your list is never uploaded, stored, or shared, so it is safe to use with names, emails, or any other entries. If you need random numbers rather than items from a list, use the Random Number Generator.
