Syllabus

Every subject, unit, topic and heading for the Central TET and the West Bengal Primary and Upper Primary TET. Anything we could not confirm against an official document is marked, rather than quietly presented as official.

A printed CTET Paper I and II syllabus booklet open at its numbered topic breakdown, beside a laptop showing the same syllabus on this site as an expandable topic tree, with CTET and West Bengal TET subject books and a handwritten study plan

How to read this syllabus

  1. It goes four levels deep

Subject, then unit, then topic, then the individual heading. The Boards publish at the top of that tree; the heading is where studying actually happens, and it is where every lesson, question and past-paper match on this site is attached. There are 643 of them across the 4 papers.

  2. Official wording is labelled official

Where a line is the Board’s own, it says so and names the document it came from. Where we split one of their broader topics into smaller pieces to make it studiable, it is labelled as our breakdown instead. You are never left guessing which you are reading.

  3. A lesson sits under the heading it belongs to

Not a chapter that happens to touch the topic. Each card above says how many of that track’s headings have a lesson written against them yet — a number that goes up, and that we would rather show than round up.

  4. An empty heading says it is empty

Nothing is invented to make the tree look full. If nothing has been published under a heading the page tells you so, rather than showing a stub that wastes the click. That is also why the counts above are worth trusting.

Questions about the syllabus

Is the CTET syllabus the same as the West Bengal TET syllabus?

No, and they are set by different authorities. CTET is conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education for the whole country. The West Bengal Primary TET is conducted by the West Bengal Board of Primary Education, and the Upper Primary test is set by the West Bengal Central School Service Commission — it is not a WBBPE examination, which is a common source of confusion. The subjects overlap a great deal, but the papers, the weightings and the wording are each Board’s own, so both are reproduced here separately rather than merged into one list.

How many topics are in the syllabus?

643 headings across the 4 papers covered here, and each card above gives the breakdown for its own track — subjects, topics and headings counted from the published syllabus rather than estimated. The heading is the smallest unit: it is what a question is set on and what a lesson is written against.

Where can I download the official syllabus PDF?

From the Board that sets it: West Bengal Board of Primary Education at wbbpe.wb.gov.in, and Central Board of Secondary Education at ctet.nic.in. The Boards’ own documents are not rehosted here, because a PDF copied onto another site is the one that goes out of date without anybody noticing. What this page gives you instead is the same syllabus as a structure you can open, search and study from, with each line marked as the Board’s wording or as our breakdown of it.

Is this the 2026 syllabus?

It is taken from the latest syllabus document each Board has published, and every line says which document that was. One exception is marked on the card above and worth knowing: Upper Primary TET follows an earlier framework that has not been confirmed against a current notification, so it is labelled provisional rather than presented as settled. Always check the notification you are applying under before you rely on any syllabus, here or anywhere else.

Is the syllabus available in Bengali?

The headings themselves are reproduced in the Board’s own wording, which is English, because translating an official line and presenting it as official would be putting words in their mouth. The study material written against those headings is a different matter: 10 lessons are written in Bengali, practice questions carry Bengali wherever a full translation exists, and you choose the language when you start a paper.

Do I have to study all of it?

Yes — a TET paper can draw on any part of its syllabus, and there is no section that is reliably left out. What changes between subjects is how many marks each carries, which is set out on the exam pattern page. The useful way to use this syllabus is not to look for shortcuts in it but to work down it heading by heading, so that nothing is a surprise on the day.

What does “our breakdown” mean next to a topic?

The Boards publish their syllabus at a certain level of detail, and some of their topics are broad enough that studying them straight is hard. Where we have split one into smaller headings to make it workable, that heading is labelled as ours rather than presented as official wording. It is the same content, divided more finely — and labelled so you can tell the difference at a glance.
